The Pokemon Sun and Moon anime is bringing back Ash's original travelling companions, Brock and Misty. The latest issue of Televi-kun (via Kotaku) reveals that the pair will return for two. The Pokemon Company has revealed that Brock and Misty will make another appearance in the Pokemon Sun & Moon anime on December 23.

There is positive reception as you see, but there is also a lot of negative reception, especially from fans who have followed the anime for the whole ride like me. In fact, Sun and Moon is one of only 3 seasons that I have dropped the anime for, the other two being Johto and Best Wishes. The biggest problem with Sun and Moon is that it tries to do a lot of things, and the end result is that I think it does none of them correctly. One of the most recent episodes where the episode advertises that the school is doing a play is pretty much the worst of Sun and Moon, and summarizes why I don't really like the anime. The episode itself is anything but a play, they pretty much went with parodies and references everywhere, which is weak unless you understand all of them, and it really had no actual content, instead it just tried to throw parodies for humor everywhere, and it failed miserably. The decisions made with Ash are just baffling.

Ash in Sun and Moon is selfish, lies and cheats, is the butt of jokes much more than in previous seasons, and forgets obvious things like there are multiple Nurse Joys. Plenty of long-time fans dropped the anime for him alone. He has caused more disconnection with long-time fans than ever before, even Best Wishes Ash, because even though Best Wishes Ash was an idiot when it came to battling, his character was still more consistent with the rest of the series than Sun and Moon Ash. It got to the point that even his own Japanese voice actress said that in her headcanon, this Ash came straight to Alola after Kanto rather than journeying through all of the regions after Kanto. The large cast is a mistake. It was hard enough in the past to keep enough focus on every character when the group size was only 3 or 4, but 6 is clearly way too much.

Mallow had the most potential in the first 2 episodes and made me think the anime could perhaps be something I would like, but they just basically dropped her as a character from there. Sophocles is unfortunately just as bland of a character as his character design, he gets some episodes that focus on him, but none of them give him real permanent development as his character just reverts back to the way it was an episode later. Lillie is an absolute mess of a character, she starts out with repetitive episodes that all have her try to get closer to pokemon in the same predictive way, and then suddenly in one arc her problem is solved with no real hardships faced. Kiawe and Lana are the best of the bunch, but with the large group size, they haven't been able to get enough focus to be as good as previous characters. In particular, Misty, May, Dawn, and Serena are far better characters than any of the Sun and Moon cast in my opinion. The biggest defense of Sun and Moon is that it does something different, which is slice of life, which I appreciate. However, it really no longer feels like Pokemon. I'm not kidding. Previous seasons had gym battles, contests, and performances, and they focused on the Pokemon.

Sun and Moon has tried to show off so much humor that the Pokemon don't feel nearly as important.Speaking of Misty and Brock, to be honest, I feel like they are no longer going to be the same characters that they were in Kanto. Johto was a boring filler-filled season, and it watered down the personalities of Ash, Misty, and Brock. Ash recovered over time, especially in Diamond and Pearl and XY, but Misty is nowhere near as savage as she was in season 1, and Brock got pushed to the background more and more starting from Advanced Generation, to the point that he basically had very little interaction with Dawn in Diamond and Pearl, even though he was a traveling companion. The episodes with Misty and Brock are really just nostalgia fanservice, and beyond the nostalgia, the episodes are really just not that good.I've said a lot about Sun and Moon, but it's just my opinion. There are a lot of people who don't have the same problem that I do with it, most likely because they haven't followed the anime the whole way through.

So try a few episodes and see if you will like it. I do want to warn you though, I don't think it will get any better. If you have issues with the first few episodes, you should probably stop.TL;DR Ash is an idiot, the cast is bland, Misty and Brock are nostalgia fanservice and nothing else, long-time fans generally hate Sun and Moon, but maybe you will like it. Try a few episodes, but if you don't like them, don't continue. It won't get better. It really is hard to take the anime seriously anymore, and it's telling that the only bright spots are when they bring back 20 year old characters.Ash never should have been the unending, unaging character he became.

He should have been phased out after the orange league probably as a master, and time should have moved on. Then they could have used the main characters from each game in the anime. But let's be real. They didn't keep Ash the MC because of Ash.

They did it because of Ash's Pikachu. While it's true the anime would improve with Ash leaving, I have to disagree with you that the bright spots is bringing back the 20 year old characters. Bringing Misty and Brock back has really done nothing for the anime. It's seasons like Diamond and Pearl and XY where the anime is able to create a fun season still within the financial and age restrictions that it has to work with that makes it fun.At this point, bringing back Serena would actually do more for the anime than bringing back Misty and Brock. But I don't want to see it as I don't think the Sun and Moon anime is good enough for any of the older characters. Do you have outside issues that are making you dislike anime Serena for any reason? Like people trying to push their opinion that she's the best?

Because otherwise I just don't see it. In fact, game Serena was the one who was boring since she's just a player character. Anime Serena is anything but, and I could list a ton of reasons why. Not that I expect you to watch it as the full 3 parts are half an hour long, but they do go into great detail. The point is, I feel like if you dislike anime Serena, there's a serious bias as to why, because objectively, not subjectively, she's much more well-written than at least most of the characters in the anime, and I do think she was more well-written than everyone in the anime. A ton of things that the anime did with May, they chickened out to make her a deeper character. They went more into depth with Dawn, but it was with Serena that they have improved even more on.The point is, I don't mind if you have your own opinion, but I do think that it's being affected by outside causes to at least think that she's worse than Iris or the Alolan girls.

Game Serena does have her own arc, but it's nothing special as a story.Anime Serena doesn't really revolve around Ash. While it's true that she travels because of Ash, she's not just a damsel in distress like a lot of girl characters in anime. Asuna from Sword Art Online and Aki from Yugioh 5Ds are examples of girl characters who start out very strong but then get pushed into the background and aren't that great at the end. Serena is the opposite, she starts out as a supporting character, but once she finds her goal, she's in the foreground, more so even than Ash at times. This is confirmed at the end of XY as she leaves because she is no longer traveling just for Ash, she's traveling to reach her own goal in life. What makes her endearing is how relatable she is, with her struggle to find her purpose in life, standing up for it when her mom disagrees, and fighting depression on her own, hiding it from her friends and trying to battle her doubts.Again, I think your opinion is being affected by what you think XY is rather than what it actually is, which is fine if you don't want to change it, but I think you have a wrong impression because of outside factors.

As an example, the creator of the videos that I linked doesn't even like Ash/Serena as a couple but still thinks Serena is the best character in the anime, which shows that Serena stands very well as a character on her own.In fact, if anything, XY is the season closest to Diamond and Pearl in both style and quality. I do find those two seasons to be the best in the anime.

If you can put your impressions about XY away, I think you wpuld actually like it.On the hand, Sun and Moon isn't that great. It does do something different, but fails on execution in a lot of ways.

Whirly word hd app. Ash and the cast are pretty terrible compared to Ash and the cast in every previous season other than Best Wishes, and the slice of life has essentially replaced the pokemon, which are supposed to be the point of the anime.
