  • Cheifs career

When starting a career with the kansas city cheifs you will want to start with free agency. You will have a lot of money this and in later years but I recommend that you save it for Rookies and years with higher profile free agents. First, you should get a good recevier to compliment Dywane Bowe. Marty Booker or Benard Berrian are good options. Unluckily that is the only position that can be adressed during free agency. But luckily there is still the draft. With your first pick go after Glenn Dorsey and your second first round pick on either Derrick Harvey or Jarod Mayo to help the front 7 even more. Then in the later rounds look for a back up running back like Tim Hightower and a quarterback like John David Booty. But in the 2nd or 3rd rounds look for players like Tyrell Johnson. Once you sign your rookies then look for a veteran QB. I have found that Chad Pennington is cheap in a trade like a 3rd or 4th round pick. Then you are set.Your record should be 5-11 or 6-10. The next off season you should have about 70 Million Dollars to throw around. Teams cut their best players like the Cowboys cut Jason Witten and the Patriots cut Tom Brady (Yeah really). So spend your money and lead your team to many dominate seasons and become a legend. Submitted by ZaneRolle

In 'Football 101,' we caught you up on some of the basic (yet finer) points of NFL football. In this section, 'Coaching Tips,' we'll outline some things you should and shouldn't do in the non-gameplay aspects of the game - that is to say, in parts of the game where you're not in a preseason, season, or playoff game setting. Hence, that's basically most of the game. Instead of tirelessly listing paragraph after paragraph, however, we've decided to give you 10 tips that'll help you along. 1) Take Your TimeThe game might be a little monotonous and slow-going, but that's part of the beauty of NFL Head Coach; you can decide even the most minute details of how your team functions and operates. Really try and take your time (unless you notice it's a timed feature, such as when you draft players or are in gameday situations - see the 'Gameday' section of the guide for more on the latter) and make the right moves. This is especially important considering your moves, once you've saved your game, are permanent and irreversible.

The Brainstorm tee takes cues from the original artwork with its center front screen printed art.

There is no rush, and if you're a true NFL fan, you won't mind making all of these decisions for your team anyway.2) Choose the Right TeamWe here at IGN Guides have some differences as far as our favorite NFL team is concerned. The author of this guide, Colin Moriarty, is a diehard Jets fan and so he chose the New York Jets as his team. Taking the Jets, considering their lack of fortune in the 2005 NFL season, was a bad choice if you want to win some games. However, we implore you to pick the team you want to pick, without worrying too much about other tangibles, such as how they did last year and how they are predicted to do in 2006. Picking a team you're familiar with, or your favorite team (even if your favorite team is the Jets or Texans, for instance) will make for a better playing experience. Picking a team (like the Steelers) because they are good without having any familiarity with the team will make your job more difficult and less fun.

Although different teams will make you offers and your choice team might not make you the best (like they did to us in regards to the Jets), pick which team you want. After all, it's only fake money you're being offered.3) Plan to Stay With ItNFL Head Coach, like the Madden franchise from EA, isn't a one season ordeal. The team you choose will, at your approval and wanting, be able to continue through seasons of the future. In fact, you can really work up your status as head coach by playing more than one season. Therefore, picking a bad team (like how we picked the Jets) can actually be more rewarding several seasons into the future, since it takes real turn-around knowledge and expertise to make a perennially losing team into the exact opposite. On the flip side, picking a team that's really good can potentially have the exact opposite affect, where they bring you some wins and glory in the early-going only to fall apart in seasons of the future.4) Concentrate On Your StaffThe men that surround you will make you look good or bad in the eyes of your team's owner; it's that simple.

Therefore, you'll want to make the right choices. Generally, coaching staffs that have good comradery and have been together for a while in some capacity (even if your current head coach and current offensive coordinator, for instance, were once coordinators together in a different city) nets you an automatic advantage. If you have gaps in your coaching staff and/or want to make some changes, check out the potential coaches and try to get the ones you want on board. The stronger their numbers, the more they will cost - but money is at the heart of winning, sometimes, and a strong coaching staff is at the very core of a winning football team.5) Listen to Your StaffAt meetings and at other times, your coaching staff will make various recommendations to you, whether it's about your play book, draft choices, keeping or cutting players, strategy (et cetera). Definitely try to stroke their egos as much as possible by taking their advice.

If they tell you to draft a player, go ahead and agree to do so. If they recommend X, Y, or Z, take their recommendations. While you may not necessarily have the chance or want to ultimately go with their recommendations, stroking their ego never hurts. In fact, it's a huge positive, and it'll make them want to work harder and more loyally.

Remember - the staff of coaches, you included, is the core of the team. Everything revolves outward from there.6) Sign the Right PlayersThis may sound like an obvious choice, but signing players and staying within your team's budget can be a huge challenge, especially when many high-rolling agents won't budge on the offer they make your team for their high-caliber players to come play in your city. As a result, the best available players aren't always the best available choices. Money is a huge concern; so too is longevity of contract and want to play in the city. For instance, a high-caliber player, player A, wants to sign with your team, but he's asking for a one year, $5,000,000 contract.

On the other hand, a lower-caliber player, player B, wants to play for your team, and he wants three years and $6,000,000. Do you choose the better player or the better contract deal? Generally, you should always go for the latter, unless the player you're talking about is such a high-caliber player that he can't be passed up (we're talking a player like Shaun Alexander). Players that want to play in your city will agree to play more than one season. A player looking to make some bank en route to a better team will only use your team to display his talents and move on.

His talent might be useful for one season, but something is certainly fishy about spending all of that money for a one season deal when you can invest slightly more for a three year contract on a player with lower talent, but likely more heart. And one that can be molded into the player you want, in the system you design. Of course, this is up to you, but signing players and passing on others is one of the most difficult aspects of NFL Head Coach.7) Barter With AgentsNever take the first deal a player's agent offers you. It's not worth it.

Rather, try to talk them down, but don't get too greedy yourself. Try to work out a player's contract based on what you're looking for. High-caliber players should be paid accordingly, but try to talk them down a bit and even eliminate some bonus money. The more money you save, the happier your owner will be, and the more money you will have to invest on other talent. You don't have to spend every cent you have, and in fact, you should try to do the exact opposite.

Don't be cheap, but don't go giving every player exactly what he wants. Unless the agent and/or player is especially picky, they will be able to be talked down. Remember that if you talk down the money, however, you must also talk down the years on the contract (and vice-versa).

Be smart when bartering on contract negotiations. This will save you money, earn you respect within the organization, and net you the best possible players for your system. 8) Scold, When NecessaryOne of the cool things about NFL Head Coach is the ability to scold not only your coaching staff, but more importantly, your players. Of course, motivation is also a positive and must be used in conjunction with out-right scolding.

During practices, for instance, you can see your various players run various plays and practice drills and talk to them accordingly. Sometimes, you'll have nothing to say to them.

At other times, you'll have everything to say to them - and then some. The game will tell you the positive and negative ways you can respond to players. However, it's hit or miss - almost always, the player(s) you talk to will respond randomly to encouragement or nastiness. Either way, it'll raise their stats and morale so scold away. But don't forget that some simple encouragement also does the trick as well.9) Kill the MonotonyEven the most ardent NFL fans may find moments of NFL Head Coach to be more of a borefest and less of a game.

However, put yourself into the place of the actual coach. Think about what he would have to do in these situations. And act accordingly.

It's the only way to get the full benefit of playing the game - after all, you're supposed to be the head coach of an NFL team. Things may seem awfully monotonous, but try your hardest not to skip any of it (unless the game automatically prompts you to, at which point you should do so if you're comfortable with it). Go through the motions and get the most out of the gaming experience.otherwise you'll find yourself making very few decisions, and come gametime, will you really know what to do?10) Go With Your GutThis might be the most important of our ten points. Even though the nine points above are great points indeed, they aren't foolproof. Sometimes, you'll need to make a decision on the fly that feels right to you, but that doesn't seem logical. But if it seems like a good decision to make, and you think it's a positive one for your team, by all means, make it. After all, you can always reset the game and try again (assuming you didn't save said transaction).

Things aren't linear in the game, in other words, so always make your moves and decisions accordingly.
